PrismTech Announces First COTS Product Support for SCA 4.0 Software Defined Radio Specification

Boston, MA, USA – October 24, 2012 – PrismTech™, a global leader in standards-based, performance-critical middleware, today announced details of its support for the SCA 4.0 next generation Software Defined Radio (SDR) middleware specification as part of its Spectra product suite.

SCA 4.0 is a major revision of the Software Communications Architecture standard.  SCA 4.0 is more scalable, lightweight, and flexible than the current SCA 2.2.2 specification and is compatible with radio sizes ranging from small, single channel radios to prime-power, multi-channel sets.  The SCA 4.0 specification includes transfer mechanisms to provide standardized client/server operations.  SCA 4.0 Appendix E identifies the approved set of platform specific transport and technology mappings, transformations, and model representations used to achieve conformance with the SCA Platform Independent model (PIM) as defined in the main specification.

PrismTech’s SpectraCommon Data Bus (CDB) is a fully integrated and optimized SDR middleware stack.  It is the first standards based, high performance, low footprint, fully interoperable, COTS SCA middleware solution that can be deployed across multiple processor types, including GPP, DSP and FPGA environments.  Spectra CDB includes the Spectra C++ ORB (for GPP) and C ORB (for GPP and DSP); and the Spectra IP Core ORB (ICO) for FPGA and ASIC implementations.

PrismTech is today announcing that the Spectra CDB suite of CORBA ORBs will be fully SCA 4.0 compliant by the end of the year 2012.  Spectra ORB C++ Edition will provide support for SCA Full Profile.  The Spectra ORB C Edition will provide support for SCA 4.0 Full and Lightweight Profiles.  Spectra ICO already supports the SCA 4.0 Ultra-Lightweight Profile.

PrismTech Delivers New Productivity Boost for Software Defined Radio (SDR) Developers with GA Release of Spectra CX v3.4 Tool

New C Code Generation and Compliance Testing Features Reduce Cost of Building Software Communications Architecture (SCA) Compliant Radios

Boston, MA, USA – February 13, 2012 – PrismTech™, a global leader in standards-based, performance-critical middleware, today announced the General Availability (GA) of version 3.4 of Spectra™ CX, the latest upgrade to its industry-leading Software Defined Radio (SDR) and Software Communications Architecture (SCA) development tool.  Spectra CX v3.4 adds significant new functionality and features that further boosts the productivity of SDR and SCA application and platform developers.

Spectra CX is a key part of PrismTech’s Spectra suite of fully integrated Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) tools, middleware, core frameworks, and development platforms for SCA developers.  Spectra CX is a model-driven architecture and development (MDA/MDD) tool that supports the complete SCA development lifecycle; allowing the developer to start developing application and/or platform code immediately with highly-productive requirements, modeling, code generation, code validation and deployment assistance features.  This results in a faster time-to-market, lower costs, better software quality, increased portability, and superior compliance for all SCA waveform and platform code developed with Spectra CX.

Spectra CX v3.4 introduces a new C Code Generator that generates SCA compliant ANSI C code for SCA components.  The C code generator introduces the ability to develop SCA compliant components for Digital Signal Processors (DSP) by leveraging the Spectra ORB C Edition.

Spectra CX v3.4 also provides the following specific improvements for SCA developers:

  • Generation of resource, resource factory, device, loadable device and executable compliance tests according to the JTEL Application and Operating Requirements lists for components developed with or outside of Spectra CX,
  • Support for generating and customizing compliance reports based on test execution,
  • Generation of a test framework including mirror component for writing functional tests against the user added ports on a component,
  • Support for running Spectra CX on a 64-bit Linux or Windows host operating system.
